The Cottage Cookie….ginger snaps

the cottage cookie

1 cup of sugar
3/4 cup butter softened
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg
2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1/4 teaspoon cloves
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 cup sugar

~in a large bowl, combine 1 cup sugar, butter, molasses and egg; beat until light and fluffy.

~lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. Add flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, ginger, cloves and nutmeg; mix well. cover; refrigerate 1 hour for easier handling.

~heat oven to 350F. shape dough into small balls; roll in sugar. place on ungreased cookie sheets.

~bake at 350F for 8 to 12 minutes or until set. cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheets.
